AWARD WINNING PRODUCER/WRITER/DIRECTOR: SYLVIA BINSFELD

I started my career as a fine artist, attending the Academy of Art in San Francisco, but became interested in acting, after auditioning for a play as a fluke with a friend and getting the lead. Shortly after starting to audition for commercials, I joined the Screen Actor's Guild and things became more interesting.

My transition to working behind the camera came after I was cast as co-host in a short-lived, offbeat TV show shot in Northern California, called "LiveWire". The producer/director gave us quite a bit of creative control and I was hooked. I had a well of ideas I wanted to implement which was frustrating as an actress but liberating in the directors seat. After that I wrote, produced and hosted a nationally sold instructional video called, "Your Child can be in TV Commercials: A step-by-step Guide." Which received rave reviews in Billboard Magazine and the Video Librarian.

My first solo attempt at producing commercials won me the first place Telly Award and my company, DreamWeaver Films was launched.

I work well with talent because I understand their process. I love what I am doing so much and it comes through in every project I take on. I strive for excellence. Commercially, I started working with extremely low, almost nonexistent budgets and took on the challenge of making them look awesome. As my client base has increased so have their budgets, but I still work with any budget making it look as if much more was spent.

My greatest passion is my independent film projects. I want to do films that touch and amaze the viewer by the sheer beauty of it and encourage people to think and transform. I want and need to make a difference.

“I had the pleasure of working with Sylvia Binsfeld as the senior visual effects compositor on her extraordinary project, Dorme. Scored by an enchanting Brazilian lullaby, Dorme is a 35mm short film that takes us into a child's wondrous dream world, so virtually every shot was a visual effects challenge. Having worked with many directors and visual effects supervisors on big budget features, I found Sylvia's creative vision and directorial style to be as focused as it was charming. She was the consummate professional that had a clear creative vision and was able to convey that to me in such a way that we were able to complete each shot together with a minimum of wasted time and motion. The finest testimonial to her skill and talent is that after doing 64 visual effects shots together she has exactly the film she envisioned and we have become the best of friends.”
